In the early 1900s, Miranda (Anne Lambert) attended school school for girls in Australia. One Valentine’s Day, a typically strict principal of the school (Rachel Roberts), processes girls on a picnic trip into an unusual but picturesque volcanic formation called Hanging Rock. Despite the rules against this, Miranda and several other girls are leaving. Only the end of the day, the faculty realizes that the girls and one of the teachers (Vivean Gray) are mysteriously disappeared.
